Simulation
Rootbound Village
★★★★☆ 4.0
Rootbound Village is a slow, cozy simulation about growing a settlement without paving over the woods around it. Every building you place affects the forest's health, so expansion is a constant trade-off rather than a straight line up.
The loop is gather, build, plan, wait. It's not a fast game, but the balance mechanic gives it more spine than the usual town sim. Overbuild and the soil turns sour; leave enough green and you unlock rarer resources.
The energy timers are the weak point — you'll bump into waiting walls unless you play in short bursts. Treat it as a game you check on rather than binge, and it's genuinely charming.
